GOOGLE PMAX Asset Specs

We often provide specs to busy clients / designers and thought would be handy to have a blog that gets right to the point of what is needed. Of course we can make your creative for you too for a small extra fee.

Each performance max ad group can have up to 20 images, 5 logos and 5 videos.

The maximum file size is 5120KB and JPEG or PNG.

As an agency we tend to:

  • IMAGES: We combine product images from your site / feed alongside creative assets, often its 50:50 but this is a client specific scenario.

  • VIDEOS: We prefer to have 1 video in 3 sizes per ad group, as you can only have 5 videos this removes need to drop a size. Videos are compulsory and If you don’t provide videos you get Google’s AI versions or can make your own in the UI which are limited in quality. Investing time in quality videos is highly recommended and will make your precious ad spend go much further.

  • LOGOS: We usually just provide 1-3 core ones. White background is best but if we notice bad placements we will also add transparent later.


Portrait Image:
- 4:5
- 960x1200 recommended / 480x600 minimum
- Minimum is none but you will miss out placements. Often we edit the square/product images to fill this gap, usually having at least 2 of the most important images in the ad group is our best practice.

Square Image:
- 1:1
- 1200x1200 recommended / 300x300 minimum
- Minimum required is x1 but usually you we ask you to provide 6-8

Landscape Image:
- 1.91:1
- 1200x628 recommended / 600x314 minimum
- Minimum required is x1 but usually you we ask you to provide 6-8

Square Logo:
- 1:1
- 1200x1200 recommended / 128x128 minimum

Landscape Logo:
- 4:1
- 1200x300 recommended / 512x128 minimum

Videos:

  • Resolution: 1080p (Full HD) is recommended

  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 for horizontal, 9:16 for vertical, and 1:1 for square

  • Format: .MPG (MPEG-2 or MPEG-4) is recommended

  • File size: Up to 256 GB is recommended

  • Frame rate: 23.98 or 29.97

  • Bitrate: At least 20 Mbps

  • Length: 10 to 60 seconds (but highly client/campaign specific)
